The Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Program at Michigan State University welcomes motivated undergraduate and graduate students from all majors to join faculty-led research teams.

By participating in VIP, you’ll gain hands-on experience, earn course credit, and contribute to real-world projects that span multiple semesters.

VIP is intended to work best as a long-term experience that can span multiple semesters. We give priority to students who plan to stay on a team for more than one semester, but future participation isn’t automatic. Moving forward depends on the contributions students make in earlier semesters.

Eligibility

• Open to undergraduate and graduate students from all MSU colleges
• No prior experience required — just curiosity and commitment
• Students are encouraged to participate for multiple semesters to build depth in a project

Application Steps

1. Browse Projects: Visit the MSU VIP Projects Page to explore ongoing faculty-led teams.
2. Select a Team: Review descriptions and requirements, then choose the team that matches your skills and interests.
3. Submit Your Application: Complete the online VIP application form with your background and project preferences.
4. Faculty Review: Faculty mentors will review applications and may reach out for additional information.
5. Enroll for Credit: Once accepted, register for the VIP course to earn credit while working on your project.
